SUNS working funny after system crash

"Our Sun 3/150 had a crash during a disk access. During subsequent reboot,
fsck found problems with the partition. That filesystem was then fscked
manually, and the partition repaired. The system then was rebooted multiuser.
>From that point onwards, the following funny behavior has been noted:

1. The user whose disk space was repaired can no longer log in directly. The
system always asks for a password, even though this user has none. However, he
can "rlogin" from anywhere, at anytime.

2. All mail originating from that user goes unreceived, and entries that match
that user's mail are found in the partition's "lost+found" area.

I'm sure that this is something obvious and simple, but don't know where to go
for help. Any ideas out there?"
