Argh.  Let's realize that LINES is an ATT-ism, whereas 'stty rows' and
'tset' are found mostly on BSD-related machines.

The problem is more likely that the original tset for vt100 mode set
the edit margins so that only 24 lines is used.  This is one reason
it's not a great idea to use vt100 with xterm.
