Andrew system memory problem

I'd *love* to use console to consolidate some things on my display, but I've
never gotten the text logs to come up with a scrollbar, despite the fact that
the documentation says that one will appear when the log gets "big enough".

You're certainly running ooooold stuff here.  The first clue is that you
mentioned the Antique console -- many of the console files (including the
Beak console (sniff sniff)) seem to have disappeared between the x11r3
and x11r4 releases (I'm not sure on the ATK version numbers involved), so
the fact that you've got that one is suspicious.  I ran my console (x11r4,
pl7), and it tells me Version 7.6, ATK 15.1), which confirms it.

I'd suggest that you get the base tree from the x11r4 distribution, apply
all 7 (soon to be 8) patches, and rebuild.  If you're running SunOS 4.0.3,
this'll build just fine.  If you're running 4.1, you'll probably want to
wait for patch 8.
