Remote printing problem

I am having problems with remote printing. I use "lpr" on a SUN3
machine running 4.0.3. The default printer set in /etc/termcap is an
Apple Laserwriter connected to a 3B2 running SYS V Rel 3.1. Most of
the time this works find, but often the two machines don't seem to be
talking. Trying "lpq" on the Sun gives nothing for about 90 seconds
then I get a message of "Waiting for remote computer to come up" or
something to that effect. The remote computer is still fine, and a
file spooled from another 3B2 is printed fine. The only way to regain
a connection from my sun is to reboot the 3B2, which is not an ideal
solution.

Does anyone have an idea of where the problem is, or perhaps a fix?
