Diff between EGA & VGA display

My knowlege about graphics is pretty limited, so here goes:

I have several callers who are telling me that if they access
a certain program on the board, that in EGA mode they see one type of
ANSI graphic character, but in VGA mode they see a different
set of characters. Same program, same termcap - nothing changed
except their mode.

Is there that much difference between the two? Is there anything I
can do from my end to eliminate this difference or is it up to them?

I can't check it out as I have a plain-jane ansi, amber monitor, so
things look fine to me. We're running SCO XENIX, ver 2.2.3 on a 286.
I think one caller is running 386 Xenix and the others are using DOS.

Any ideas, comments, suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks in advance....
Scotty
