Reminder on Unix?

I just moved from a VMS system to UNIX, and I miss the REMINDER on VMS
quite a lot. I wonder if someone has a Reminder-equivalent utility
for the UNIX, with the crontab utility built in.

The VMS Reminder reminds me 60 minutes, 30 minutes, 15 minutes, five
minutes and 1 minutes in advance of my appointment by beeping and
displaying two of text on my terminal screen.
