set terse

Hello. My .login file contains the line:
setenv EXINIT 'se ai sm shell=/bin/csh terse wm=10'
I am unclear about what the 'se terse' (abbr for
set terse) does. The only reference I can find to
the term terse in my documentation (4.3 BSD) is
in USD:15-14. It refers to setting terse, but doesn't
define what it actually does. If anyone knows what
set terse does, I would appreciate it if you would mail
me a brief explanation. Thank You.
