Hi there NET-OIDs:

Happy new year!!!!

Now for my ulterior motive.... I need to get uninterruptible
power supplies for our Sun servers. What I hear is that they are
either unavailable, unreliable, way too exensive ( > $15,000), a
bad idea or other such pessimism. What is the truth ? Is
*anyone* out there using UPS's ? If so how have they been ?
How much do they cost and where can/should you pick one up from?
The UPS I have in mind would deal with the following:

	1 Server (3/480S class machine)
8 SMD disks (Fujitsu 2372K class)
	1 CDC 1/2" tape drive
	1 SCSI tape drive
	1 console terminal

I just want the UPS to iron out any spikes I have on the line
and to remove power from the system down in a more controlled manner than
that of New England Power. I would like the UPS to keep
everything up for at least a few minutes, if possible, failing
that I would settle for a *good* heavy-duty line-conditioner. I realize
that a UPS will not be a magic cure but the power spikes I have
seen in the past few months are beginning to scare me.
