mail standard

I am in the process of writing a mailing-list and an archive-server
based on some keywords in the header of mail I received.
(e.g. activate the archive-server if there is a correct keyword in
the subject field). All the code is almost done except some parts
that need better handling. Now some questions :

1. Any suggestion on good books or detail documentation on "mail".
All I have now is some general unix books, man pages, and RFC 822.

2. What is the standard header for bounce / undelivered mail ?
Is there any ? Do most system follow the standard ?

3. I need some pointers / examples in getting the value of each
field in the header of the mail. Right now I am using wierd (goofy)
shell script to do the job. It works if the field and the value
is in one line. I need better solution

Thanks,
Budi Rahardjo
