We are having a problem with in.routed running on a Sun 3/160. The process
dies without apparent reason. The following gives a little more detail on our
system setup:

Sun 3/160 running SunOS 3.5 (no longer supported - we know)
Sunlink Internet Router version 5.0
Sunlink MCP (Multiprotocol Communications Processor) card with
      version 5.2 driver software

There are two serial connections in the form of HDLC point-to-point circuits
running off of the MCP card. These connect to other Sun's (either 3/260's or
4/370's, depending on the circuit.) The distant machines run somewhat more
recent versions of the same software - SunOS 4.x., Router and MCP version 6.0

The Sun 3/160s act as routing gateways for other machines sharing the ethernet
with them. When the routed daemon dies, these other machines are cut off from
our internet.

We currently have no idea why the daemon should be dying like this - could it
be dying on its own if there has been no traffic for a long period?

Any information or trouble-shooting suggestions would be much appreciated. If
more detail is desired on our configuration I can supply it. I have tried to
RTFM, but without success.

Please send responses to mitre-taegu at taegu-emh1.army.mil.

                              Thanks!
