Slowing down output...

I'm writing a shell script demo  program and I want to know if there are
any shell scripts or other pd stuff that could make the terminal output
look like a teletype machine.  I need to be able to have the output pause
for tenth's of seconds between characters and the sleep command has a one
second minimum.
