Why not go with your instincts? 8-)

Kirk stated (at a talk about the future of BSD [*not* the UseNIX one, this
was at a bookstore when the BSD book came out]) that they (the Berkeley
Folks) pushed for some of the options as FIPS requirements to get people to
use "sane" operating systems...

I won't repeate what my whispered comments were... 8-)
