PS/2 mouse queries

I am having a hard time setting up my mouse properly. I'm runnung ISC 2.2
on a PS/2 -80 and i have a standard microsoft mouse which works fine under
DOS. I've built the kernel so that it includes the microsoft bus mouse driver
and the keyboard mouse driver. The necessary devices appear to be 'normal'
but as soon as i go to VPIX i get en 'error 6 opening mouse file /dev/mouse'.
When I run X, the mouse will not budge...
Can anybody help me?
