Problems installing SCO ODT

One thing that we ran into here was that if you echo a message out of an
rc script (i.e.: echo "Starting product specific initialization"), or do
an "su -" out of an rc script and root's .profile echos something
(i.e.: echo "Product Specific Greeting"), you can do grevious and
irreversable damage to the the UNIX product.  Well, maybe it's not that
bad, but we had things like system error messages showing up in the
/etc/mnttab file.
