PANIC during install

I was attempting to install AT&T SV/386 R3.2.2 on a clone machine today
and got a "PANIC: Kernel mode trap. Type 0x00000000" message, along with
a dump of what appears to be 24 registers.

Does this mean absolutely that this clone cannot run UNIX or perhaps do
I have the hardware/firmware setup wrong.  (It loads and runs MSDOS OK.)
