Why should I go to Ultrix 2.2 (not on ethernet) ?

I finaly received the Ultrix 2.2 upgrade but why would I want to
install it ? I'm not on ethernet, and quite frankly, the system
preformed better under Ultrix1.2.
I saw little benifit from Ultrix 2.0 and in exchange, I now get alot
of "silo overflow" messages. I assume that Ultrix 2.2 will only add
still more overhead to the kernal, making the problem still worse. Since
the overflow messages are coming from ports used for data collection (the
project that justifies my having the VAX), do I really want to continue
upgrading ?
We are not on ethernet so what benifits are there for me in 2.2 ?
If I don't install 2.2 or if I decide to go back to 1.2 (or maybe 1.0),
will a future upgrade mean installing all previously ignored upgrades ?
Wouldn't it make more since for me to just let our software contract
expire, and forget about upgrades until if and when I get an ethernet
connection ?
All comments welcomed. Thank-you to all who respond.
