Just qdsg.  The problem is that if you are running xcons, and a console 
message comes in, for some reason it completely screws up your entire display
(to the point of being unusable).  The temporary workaround is to NOT run
xcons, let the message come directly to the console, and then xrefresh to clean
up your display.
