boot from remote device?

Do a man on 'ris'... Remote Installation Utility.  Or look at your ULTRIX manual...
"Guide to Remote Installation Service".   You need the RIS software subset
UDSRIS030  (RIS for V3.0) and  UDSVAXUPGRD020 (RIS VAX server software)..
IP addresses, etc....

RIS is based on a server-client model, so  you may still need some trivial amount
of diskspace to set up your RIS server.....but nothing compared to what you need
to run a diskless environment.

So, you will not need to load any software on your client machines ...you will only type
a command and the installation software transfers the software subsets residing
on the server's network distribution kit to the clients' system disks via the ethernet.
