Time Services: timed/ntp problems

We have a couple of machines on our LAN running UCB's
Time Sync. Protocol (timed) under Ultrix V4.[01].
The BIND/Hesiod Master Server runns timed -E -M and the
Slave Server as timed -M, the rest just timed.
Now the problem is that when the Slave Server gets elected as
master, i.e. the Master Server crashes and comes back up, the
Slave Server is still timedeamon master. The Master Server
can't accept another timedeamon master except itself because of
the -E switch.
I could start all possible timedeamon masters with timed -M only
but in my point of view that would not work in combination with
U. of Maryland's ntpd time services where the system connected
with ntpd *HAS* to be timed master. (Some systems have only timed,
like SCO Unix.)
Any other ideas ?? - Thanks !
