Hi,
I'm trying to install a SCSI fuji 2266SH (1.2Gb) on a DECstation-3100.
The drive has 512byte sectors.
The drive is recognized by ``test -c'' in the prom and by the 'scsi'
prom commands. I can probe it, and can run read/write tests on it with
no problem.
However, when attempting to boot, the drive isn't recognized. It
doesn't even come up with device name 'unknown' -- it just probes the
drive (light goes on) and then skips over the RZ entry.
I tried booting with the Ultrix 4.1 tapes, and it gave me some message about
(1) SCSI communiction XXXXXX ID = 1, SOMETHING = 0x12
(2) SCSI bus reset
(3) message (1) repeated
message (1) is garbled here because the display clears immediately,
and then you need to reboot from TK50, a pain unto itself. A ``press
return to reboot'' message would be nice here, DECdudes.
So, has anyone seen such a problem before? Any possible fixes? I'll
list the disk configuration below -- it's derived from descriptions in
the manual. Cable lengths seem reasonable, but I'll double check that
if nothing else.
SCSI ID = 1
SCSI Time monitoring = enabled (def)
Read ahead (256K) = enabled
SCSI level = tried both 2 and 1/ccs
Message mode = SAVE DATA POINTER issued for
disconnection after xfr
MODE Select = check condition status not reported
PER default value = 0
Motor start mode = start on powerup
SCSI bus parity = enabled
synch mode xfr rate = 0.96 to 4.8Mb/s
sync mode data transfer request = enabled
SCSI time monitor mode = ACK signal wait is unlimited time
Selection monitoring time is
250ms, 128 retries (def)
UNIT Attention condition = SCSI standard
(for command other than INQ,
REQ SENSE or PRIO RESERVE,
respond with 'CHECK CONDITION')
