Getting passwd to accept input from a file?

        Dear ULTRIX Gurus:

        Does anyone out there in Netland know how to make the passwd
command accept input from a file instead of the terminal?  I have already 
tried:

% passwd < foo.bar

with appropriate responses coded in foo.bar
