I have been thinking about adding the history features of the csh to the
Bourne shell. My idea is that since there is no chance that the Bell
UNIX support group will switch to the csh
because it was so traumatic to switch from the Mashey to the Bourne
shell, there is some chance that they would accept an upward compatible
shell with the history features. People at BTL mainly use the
interactive features of csh, not the shell script control structures.

I mentioned this to Greg Guthrie, who installed csh at our location, and
got this reply:

Steve Sutphen at Univ. Alberta (used to be in uucp alberta!steve)
was going to do exactly what you described, about a year ago.
	You might call and check...

My Unix mail message didn't get a response, but maybe someone on
unix-wizards knows Steve's current wherabouts, or knows of a similar
effort. There is no point in duplicating someone else's effort.
Please reply via unix-wizards due to Arpanet-Usenet communication problems.
