Synchronous 56kb under UNIX?

Does anyone out there have information (or preferably experience)
pertaining to communicating to a half duplex/synchronous machine at
56kbaud?  I have a pair of VAXen running 4.1BSD and internal UNIX
4.0, respectively, either or both of which need to talk to a UNIVAC
1100.  Any info appreciated!
