Too many inits

I don't think anybody is in a position to laugh at anyone else's
question, whether they are a wizard or not. The least you can
do if you laugh, is to laugh to yourself, but not publicly.
Unix-wizards should be a forum for those less in the know to gain
from those more in the know. Just because a question didn't deal
with a XYZ99 driver or a PU88 tape drive or some such "higher-level"
topic doesn't mean it is not worthy of answering politely.

To the original submitter: I'm glad you asked. While everybody was
snickering at the question, I, too, was wondering what the answer
was. I had some ideas about the answer, but had never been sure
myself.

If I ever need to ask a question, I certainly hope it is worthy
of somebody's POLITE reply.
