We were a beta test site for Sun's "4.2", which is really an evolved
4.1c for the Sun. The first non-test release arrived yesterday. I
can't say anything about our beta-site experiences, and I haven't yet
brought the standard release up, but in general we are happy so far.
The system is not 4.2, but then it doesn't look as though 4.2 from
Berkeley is going to be as ambitious as the proposal indicated.

We will shortly be running 3 Suns (two servers, one diskless) on the
same Ethernet as 2 VAXen, 1 running the BBN networking kernel, and the
other beta-test VAX 4.1c. So far, a look at the documentation
indicates that there may be a problem with Ethernet address resolution
on a net with diskless nodes; we have already experienced similar
problems with our 4.1c VAX, which does no address resolution at all.

In the next few months we will be getting several more Suns, and may or
may not convert all our VAXen to 4.1c, so we'll be getting more and
more experience with this configuration. Our experiences will probably
appear only in WorkS, unless there's a demand for them elsewhere.
