help with vtroff under 4.2

We are trying to bring up a versatec under 4.2.
Normal text files print ok, but we are having troubles with
vtroff.  The basic question is:
	Why do we get an error when compiling /usr/src/old/vpr/rvcat.c
(as well as a few other progs in that same directory)
(which compile fine under 4.1)

Does anyone have any experience in running a versatec under 4.2?

(BTW, advice on accessing multiple fonts with troff on an imagen would
be appreciated also)
