Lost mail, replies, and apology

Sorry for burdening news with this general announcement but...

Recently I've been suffering from an epidemic of bounced mail. More
than 50% of the replies I send to my mail is coming back from various
mailer daemons. I am working with people at various sites to try and
resolve these problems.

It has always been my practice to, at the least, acknowledge all incoming
mail (unless it's simply acknowledging receipt of my mail). Since I
have been unable to do so in many cases recently I am making the
following public replies.

First thanks to the many, many, people who responded to my question
about making the 4.2BSD talk work. I remain baffled. The daemon
IS running. I have inet, ethernet, and loopback configured into the
system and have option INET set too. The /etc/hosts file is set up
correctly. I judge this correct because our ethernet works fine.
The /etc/services file also appears to be correct. I have run both talkd
and talk under dbx and talk is trying to "sendto" the same port that
talkd bound to its socket but the "rcvfrom" in talkd never returns.
The reasons remain unclear.

Second I apologise to the person in sf-lovers who reviewed the book
by Rod Macleish for my comments and thanks to those who pointed out
that Macleish works for NPR. I know NPR is a subsid. of PBS but
whenever someone says PBS I automatically think of television.

To those who don't receive replies, please bear with me. Normal
service will be resumed as soon as possible.
