I do not have source for nroff either, but have found a
solution. After dumping (in hex, ascii, octal, decimal, etc) the tab
file and comparing the contents with the manual page posted to the
net recently, I finally figured out the format. I have written a
program that makes a tab file based on an initialized structure as
given in the man page.
Amazingly, the resulting tab file works! I have prepared
a proportional tab for the diablo 630 to test the result, and no
problems so far. I am not posting the tab file format and program
now, but if there is enough interest, I can. Let me know by mail.
I will *not* post if someone shows me that this would be
a violation of license. It shouldn't be - It's *my* program, and
I worked only from the man page and existing tab files. I *do not*
have source license. I do not promise that what I have will work
for your machine (mine is Sys III, on an HP-9000), but I see
no reason why it shouldn't.
If I get enough requests, I will post:
a) The man page posted to the net earlier
b) My C program that prepares a tab file.
c) Some observations about the workings of the tab file.
