Information request

I need the following information:

1. Is there any documentation to augment the sparse description of termcap
   fields?  I seem to remember something about this about 6 months ago, but
   I did not note it at that time.

2. Does anyone know of any references for the screen update algorithm used by
   emacs?  I realize that the code is the final source, but a written overview
   would be extremely helpful.
