4.3bsd networking problem

We have been experiencing a network problem on our Vax 11/785 which we have been unable to resolve thus far. The Vax is running UNIX (4.3bsd) and is connected to a Xerox 10MB ethernet via an Interlan board (NI1010A). Many different devices hang off the ethernet including, Sun workstations, Vaxen, Dlions and other Xerox workstations/devices. TCP/IP, XNS and PUP comprise the protocol suites in use at our site.

The problem is that the Vax tends to go deaf to the network. When it does, even though we see a significant amount of incoming traffic, we see no network communication originating from the Vax except for a few broadcast packets now and then. It occurs at varying time intervals, but recently seems to be hap- pening quite often, as many as four times a day. "Netstat" never indicates that the mbufs have been totally consumed. As for the hardware, we have replaced the Interlan board, tr

ansceiver and drop cable.

I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who has encountered such a
problem or who may have suggestions on troubleshooting it.
