Rogue: anomalous behaviour

I have encountered some weird behaviour with 'rogue', and was
wondering if anyone could tell me what's happening:

Last night my terminal MUX went bye-byes in the middle of a
game of rogue. Normally I'd just give up but I was doing so well...
Instead I killed rogue from another terminal by sending it SIGIOT
(trap 6), which made it save its default file and die. Then I carried
on the game.
Now I keep getting 'At some bizarre place (0,0)' flashed at the
top of the screen at seemingly random moments (which sounds like a
debug statement to me). This is not so bad, but the stairs down seem
to have vanished as well, which is not good news.
The version of rogue is 5.2 (provided with Pyramid's OSx
Unix), and one gets the words 'mctesq was here' with its version
number.
Could someone please enlighten me as to what's going on? Can
I get out of this debug mode? can I get on with my game? Please
mail.

Phil.
