current pwd in prompt

This works with any real shell:

    PS1="."

(I don't recall who posted this, but it was one of the best answers I
heard on it).

On the Korn shell (but not most Bourne shell PS1 is evaluated each time
it is printed so you can:

    PS1="`pwd` "
