Question on SunOS bad block handling with SCSI

I read somewhere that the last two cylinders of a SunOS disk are
used for bad block handling. Is this used at all for disks
with built-in bad block relocation such as SCSI disks?

If you know the answer to that one, maybe you might also know
what all of the entries in /etc/format.dat and the disk label
REALLY mean and what they're REALLY used for.

Thanks muchly (will summarize if there is sufficient interest)
