'make' program

Does anyone know where/how I might be able to get my hands on the C source
for a 'make' program? I am using the GNU compiler which works fine for just
compiling one program. But, trying to compile smail or Cnews would be a bit
of a problem. The GNU compiler did not come with a 'make' program.
