Using "crypt" under sco xenix?

Can anyone tell me what you have to do in order to use crypt under SCO xenix?
I have a friend using a xenix system who simply wants to validate
user-entered passwords against the appropriate /etc/passwd entries. Using
crypt(key,salt) works fine here on my sun systems, but his xenix system
doesn't seem to have the right library.

Can anyone help out? Tell me what he needs to do in  order to validate
username/password pairs against the password file in xenix?
