pseudo ttys

Hi there...
I am trying to provide input to an interactive program (namely
dataflex) from another program. Tried using pipes but apparently dataflex
does not like input from pipes (ie. cat file | flex core dumps on me)
Have been told this might mean that dataflex expects input from a tty.
So am considering using pseudo ttys. Xenix seems to have an pseudo
device driver (sxt). Is this a solution? Am I in heading in the
right direction? How does one use sxt (after opening channel 0)?
The documentation provided in the Xenix manuals is not sufficient
(for me, anyway). Am I being a dunce? Any help/pointers will be
much appreciated.

I am running Xenix Sys V 2.xx (cant remember exact version but I think
it is 2.1.2) on a 286 machine.
Bye for now.
Chai.
