80287: how important to xenix?

I run SCO Xenix on an ATT 6310 (80286). One of the most common (and
time consuming) tasks for my machine is computing checksums on large
files (using a crc formula). Would adding an 80287 speed these
calculations up, or does the 80287 affect only floating point
operations? Would an 80287 have any (favorable) impact on compile
times for cc? (Not the speed of the resulting programs - the compilation
process itself.)
