how 2 allocate 65k mem under 286 Large Model

I am writing a simple program that I would like to allocate several
large buffers, over 32k. Reading "malloc" indicates that the newer
version, pages 3-5 is appropriate, however that -lmalloc support is
only available to small & medium model programs, because brkctl has
a similar restriction.

So before throwing in the towel and getting 386 xenix (I would but
the new device drivers would cost much more than the o/s) does anyone
have any suggestions?
