Well, Noel I believe you have already downloaded the SCSICNTL program off of
adaptex, so now you can make use of it.  Enable the read ahead on the drive.

As far as using CDC drives goes, I have 5 drives on adaptex.  Three of them
are CDC drives of various capacities.  They have worked flawlessly since they
have been installed (since 4/89).
