Many problems with "mailx"

Boy, it IS broken!  The parentheses don't even balance.  (Four left ones
against three right ones.)  How did the sucker even compile, let alone
fail?  (Or are these fixes to the "fixes"?)  Sorry if this is a duhhhhmb
question.
