Problems with uucp

We have a problem with uucp, whereby it sometimes fails to complete a
transfer of a file correctly.  This is generally concerned with
transfers of object files between machines.  It appears to get into a
state where both ends time out and continue to resend the same block
over and over again.  What is odd is that turning on debugging
information in uucico has the effect of making the fault go away.

We are using the standard version 7 uucp as distributed.

Does anybody have any suggestions?
