Finding the ROM BIOS ID number

Hello all,
	I need some information on obtaining the ROM BIOS ID number
and date. I would appreciate any helpful information or coding ideas
to find these two peices of information. I will be using C language
to do this so please give me some information pertaining to coding
in C language if possible.
