Have you put in a full height drive INSIDE a 7300 not the 3b1?

I am querying the net to find out if anyone out there has put in a full
height drive INSIDE the 7300? I would like to know if you have done
this without upgrading the power supply and also how long have you been
running your system?

The reason for this question is that a friend of mine bought one of the
early UNIX-PC's with a 20 Mbyte drive which he quickly outgrew. I set him
up with an external drive with its own power supply and he ran just fine
for over 1.5 years.(This was a 80 Mbyte Toshiba)
Then the 3B1 cover became available and I thought it would be a good idea
to put his HD inside his machine and having him spend the $60 for the new
cover. This way we would eliminate the long data cables and esthaticly (sp?)
it would be more pleasing. He has been running this system with a fully
populated combo card, a tape controller and another EIA card about 16
months since the hard disk went inside his PC. No Problems so far !!!

I bought for my own personal use a 7300 with a 20Mbyte during the firesale
and I too quick ran out of space. I put in a Seagate ST-251 shortly
thereafter and now I would like to get 3B1 plastic cover and put inside
a Seagate ST-4096 (80 Mbyte) drive. When I called the hotline to get the
part number, the kind man over there told me that on the 3B1 the drive power
cable comes directly from the power supply. While on the 7300 the drive
power comes from the mother board. As a result, unless one upgrades the
power supply when putting a larger drive, one could over heat the mother
board and poof!!

My experience tells me that so far my friend's mother board has not over
heated beyond what the fans can do, is he just pure luck? should I
try the in-expensive approach? I would appreciate hearing your ideas.
