3.2 Installation Misfortunes

I just finished upgrading our 4D/70GT to 3.2; installation went okay,
although the documentation leaves much to be desired. Now, its time to
restore our user files......

Lo and behold ! The new release can't read/write multiple volumes on
the VME QIC-02 cartridge tape anymore !!

I have no idea why SGI would break something as fundamental as this.
We've been doing multiple-volume backups/restores on our 4D/70 using
the VME QIC-02 under 3.1 for over a year, and it worked fine.

Anyone have any idea how I'm going to restore my users files ?? Any
help is appreciated.
