This is a normal exit.  I don't know why grcond printed the messages.

This looks like NeWS called abort(3).  I'm surprised there wasn't a message.

There are a few funny PostScript things we know of that can  cause segmentation
violations in NeWS.  You don't see them in normal use of the system.  Is
there some
program that you are usually running when the screen goes black?

This is very mysterious.  When the NeWS server crashes, you should get another
log in prompt not a black screen.  The general flakiness you are
experiencing smells
like a hardware problem.
