Iris Image Lab format

We've used the tools in /usr/people/4Dgifts/iristools/imgtools quite a bit to
work with images. We've also used the example code to write image conversion
programs for our own image format -> iris format. The code examples are
really useful, still I find it quite odd that SGI doesn't document the
image file format officially, after all they do ship a significant number
of .rgb and .bw images with the demo stuff. I can understand not supporting
the code in the 4Dgifts directory but the image file format seems really
basic in many ways.
