I DO leave messages.  However: 1) the SGI receptionists will not take longish messages, 2) the SGI receptionists are errorprone (IMHO, based on experience) at taking technical messages, 3) In the case in point SGI required that the hotline worker speak to me directly and in person, not via messages before sending the tape.
