SAS on SUN3's?

We (U. Wisc.-Milwaukee) are considering getting a SUN3/260 server for the
express purpose of running SAS. It would be connected via ethernet to our
campus network and accessed from any variety of terminals (not just Sun
workstations). User's would be working primarily in batch mode: SAS
<infile >outfile. If anyone on the net is running SAS from a SUN3 server,
we would appreciate hearing your comments, good or bad, about

  1. How your system is configured (RAM, disk space, etc).
  2. How many users you are able to support peacefully.
  3. How much disk space is required by SAS on a SUN for
temporary files, etc. for a user.
  4. Anything else we should know.

Please email your comments to
