SCSI driver features for SPARCstation 1

I found the following paragraph in page 53 of the Spring 1989 issue of the
Sun Technology Journal:

	"As part of Sun's continuing efforts to enhance SunOS,
	SPARCstation 1 incorporates a new SCSI driver.  This driver
	supports a more consistent set of SCSI operations, thereby
	simplifying the addition of of new SCSI devices to the system."

Now, are the SunOS interfaces to SCSI operations available to programmers
through some form of library?  Is this documented somewhere?.  Please
respond by email.
