slow sunview

we run sunview under 4.0 on 3/50s here and we have the same problems as
everyone else with its speed. one noticeable factor in sunview's
performance is the size of the text saved in a shell tool. after a few
hours of good work with a fair amount of output to the screen, sunview
begins to slow down noticeably-- you can almost see the paging. if we
empty the window of text (left-e), sunview returns to a more tolerable
speed until the window fills with text again. a question for more
experienced sunview users than I: how can one limit the amount of text
that is saved in a window (a la X, where the default number of lines is
quite small) ? as far as i can tell, there really isn't an option in
sunview for this--text is saved without bound. there is an option that
can be set in .defaults called /Ttty/Text_wraparound_size, but this
doesn't seem to have any effect on our cmdtools. the documentation
indicates that this option only changes the amount of text saved in the
console window. is that true ? thanks in advance,
